AI and models
Choose what your agents run on and which model answers each project's tickets.
Repile's agents run on Claude Code or Codex. You connect at least one of them during setup. This page explains where the AI comes from, how to pick a model for each project and how to switch.
Where the AI comes from
You have two ways to pay for the AI.
Your own Claude or ChatGPT account
Repile can run on your own subscription:
- Claude Code uses a Claude sign-in (Claude Pro or Max) or an Anthropic API key.
- Codex uses a ChatGPT sign-in (ChatGPT Plus or Pro) or an OpenAI API key.
You connect your account on the first setup screen. To see or change the accounts later, go to Settings and open AI accounts under Workspace. The Accounts section shows each provider and its sign-in. The sign-in is stored on your Repile server. When usage data is available, Repile also shows how much of each usage limit you have used.
Repile AI credits
Your plan can include Repile AI credits. Credits apply to Claude Code only. When credits are on, Claude Code runs on your plan's credits and you do not need your own Claude account.
- Plan credits reset every billing period.
- Extra credits that you buy or are given carry over. Repile uses them after your plan's credits.
If your workspace does not offer credits, Repile shows "Repile AI credits aren't offered on this workspace" and Claude Code uses your own Claude account.
Check your credits
- Click AI credits in the sidebar footer.
- Read Remaining. Below it, Repile shows your plan credits this period, your extra credits and what you spent in the last 30 days.
- Click Buy more credits to open your credits page.
When credits run out, Claude Code on credits stops until you add credits, your plan renews or you switch to your own Claude account.
Switch between credits and your own account
- Click AI credits in the sidebar footer. You can also open Repile AI credits in Settings.
- Pick Repile AI credits or Your own Claude account.
The change applies to new Claude Code sessions. You do not need to restart anything.
From the CLI:
repile ai-credits status
repile ai-credits use credits
repile ai-credits use own
Pick a model
Repile picks the model for a ticket in this order:
- Workspace: the workspace default model.
- This project: the project's own model, if you set one. It overrides the workspace default.
Set the workspace default
- Go to Settings, then AI accounts.
- Under Workspace default model, open Agent that answers first and pick an agent.
Repile uses this when a project has not picked its own model.
Set a model for a project
- Go to Settings and open the project under Projects.
- Open the Model tab.
- Pick a Model and its effort. Every chat and ticket in this project uses it.
- Pick a Permission mode. This sets what the agent may do without asking you first.
The project's Overview tab shows the result under Model, for example Workspace, then This project.
During setup, the model you picked becomes your first project's default model.
From the CLI:
repile provider models claude-code
repile project update <project-id> --provider claude-code --model <model> --reasoning-level medium
repile project update <project-id> --no-default-model
--no-default-model clears the project's model, so the project uses the workspace default again.
Switch the model in one chat
A chat can still switch model from its model picker in the composer. This changes only that chat.
To make switching fast, add models to Favorites in Settings, AI accounts. You can then switch in the composer with Cmd+1 to Cmd+5 on a Mac, or Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+5 on other computers.
Effort
Each model has an effort level, also called reasoning level. Setup starts at Medium. You can change the effort for a project in the Model tab or with --reasoning-level, and for a single chat from the model picker.
