Projects

Give each product its own instructions, memory, code and model.

A project is a product whose tickets go together. Each project has its own instructions, memory, secrets and model. Every chat and ticket in the project follows them.

Most companies make one project for each product. Setup creates your first project for you.

Create a project

  1. Go to Settings. Under Projects, click New project.
  2. In Name it, type the product name your customers use. Click Upload picture to add an avatar.
  3. In Where do its tickets come from?, pick the inboxes or mailboxes for this product. You can change this later on each inbox's Routing tab.
  4. In Code (optional), type a GitHub repository as owner/plugin.
  5. Click Create project.

From the CLI:

repile project create --name "My Plugin" --instructions-file instructions.md --avatar logo.png

Project settings

To open a project's settings, go to Settings and click the project under Projects. The settings include these tabs:

  • Overview: where tickets come from, which model answers, the instruction layers, and summaries of memory, secrets and access.
  • Inboxes: the inboxes that send tickets to this project.
  • Instructions: what the agent reads on every chat and ticket in this project.
  • Memory: what the agent has learned.
  • Secrets: keys for this project only. A project secret overrides a workspace secret with the same name.
  • Director: settings for the project's Director. See Director.
  • Model: the model for this project. See AI and models.
  • Access: who can see this project. Roles are set in Workspace, Members.
  • Details: name, picture, repositories, checkouts and Delete project.

Name and avatar

  1. Open the Details tab.
  2. Edit the Project name.
  3. Click Upload picture or Change picture to set the avatar.

Instructions

Instructions come in layers. The agent reads them top to bottom, and later layers narrow earlier ones:

  1. Everyone: instructions for every agent on every ticket. Edit them in Settings, Agent tools, Instructions. Your writing style from setup is saved here.
  2. Inbox: the playbook of the inbox that sent the ticket.
  3. This project: instructions for this product only.

To edit the project layer:

  1. Open the Instructions tab.
  2. Write in Layer 3 · This project. You can use up to 20,000 characters.
  3. Click Save.

Put facts about the product here: what it is, versions, where things live and known issues.

Good instruction examples

Write short, direct rules. For example:

- This is the free plugin. The Pro add-on is a separate plugin with its own license.
- Settings live under Settings > My Plugin in wp-admin.
- Version 3 needs PHP 7.4 or newer.
- Known issue: the settings page is blank when another plugin loads an old copy of React. Ask which plugins are active.
- Never promise a release date.
- Pro customers get priority.

From the CLI:

repile project update <project-id> --instructions-file instructions.md

Memory

Memory is what the agent has learned while it works on this project, one fact per line. The agent keeps it up to date itself. When the project is new, the Overview tab shows "Nothing learned yet".

To correct the memory:

  1. Open the Memory tab.
  2. Edit or delete a line. You can use up to 20,000 characters.
  3. Click Save.

From the CLI:

repile project update <project-id> --memory-file memory.md

Connect GitHub repositories

The agent reads your plugin's code to understand bugs. Each GitHub repository gets its own folder inside the project's folder, so one project can hold many plugins, for example a free plugin and its Pro add-on.

  1. If you did not connect GitHub during setup, go to Settings, Agent tools, Integrations, GitHub and click Connect GitHub.
  2. Open the project's Details tab.
  3. In Repositories, type the repository as owner/plugin.
  4. Click Clone.

Repile shows where it cloned the repository. Add another repository the same way.

From the CLI:

repile project clone <project-id> owner/plugin

Delete a project

  1. Open the Details tab.
  2. In Danger zone, click Delete project.

This removes the project, its instructions and memory, and every thread in it, including archived ones.
